Device Optimization

Regular optimization keeps your device running smoothly for the best Apollo Group TV experience. We recommend following these steps every 2–3 months to enhance performance and reduce interruptions. The quickest improvement: open the app, go to settings, and clear the cache.

Amazon Device Optimization

Clear Cache and Data

  1. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
  2. Select the Apollo Group TV app (or the app you’re optimizing).
  3. Choose Clear Cache to remove temporary files.
  4. Select Clear Data to refresh the app. Note: This will require you to sign in again but won’t remove customizations within the app.
  5. After clearing data, select Force Stop to close the app completely.
  6. Launch Application to ensure it starts fresh.

    Reset Wi-Fi Connection

    1. From the Home screen, go to Settings.
    2. Select Network.
    3. Choose your Wi-Fi network and press the Menu button (the three horizontal lines) on your remote.
    4. Select Forget This Network.
    5. Reconnect by selecting your Wi-Fi network again and entering the password.

    Reboot Device

    • From the Home screen, go to Settings.
    • Select My Fire TV.
    • Choose Restart and confirm to reboot the device.
    • Alternatively, you can unplug the Fire device from the power source, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.

    Confirm Available Storage

    • Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage.
    • Ensure there’s at least 1 GB of free storage available for optimal performance.
    • If storage is low, consider deleting unused apps or clearing data from larger apps.

    Delete Unused Apps

    • From the Home screen, go to Settings.
    • Select Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
    • Scroll to the app you want to delete and select it.
    • Choose Uninstall to delete the app and free up storage space.

    Additional Customizations

    Confirm Device Type

    • Go to Settings
      • From the Home screen, navigate to Settings.
    • Select My Fire TV
      • Scroll down and choose My Fire TV (or Device or System on older models).
    • Open About
      • Select About. Here, you’ll see details about your device, including Device Model and Software Version.
    • Check Device Model
      • Look for information such as Device Model or Fire TV Version to confirm the specific model of your Amazon device.

    Move an App to Home Screen

    1. Go to Your Apps & Channels
      • From the Home screen, scroll to the right until you see Your Apps & Channels.
      • Select See All to view all installed apps.
    2. Find the App You Want to Move
      • Scroll down to locate the Apollo Group TV app (or any app you want to move).
    3. Move the App
      • Highlight the app, then press the Menu button (three horizontal lines) on your remote.
      • Select Move or Move to Front from the menu.
    4. Place the App on the Home Screen
      • If you selected Move, use the directional buttons on the remote to place the app in your preferred location on the Home screen.
      • Press the Select button to confirm the placement.

    Adjust Privacy and Ad Settings

    Disable Data Collection and Ad Tracking

    • Go to Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings.

    • Toggle the following options Off to enhance privacy:

      • Device Usage Data: Prevents Amazon from collecting information on how you use your Fire device.
      • Collect App Usage Data: Stops Amazon from gathering data on app usage.
      • Interest-based Ads: Limits personalized ads based on your usage data.
    • Next, go to Settings > Preferences > Advertising ID.

    • Select Reset Advertising ID to clear any previously collected ad data.

    • Toggle Opt out of Interest-based Ads to Off to further limit targeted ads on your device.

    Check for Software Updates

    • Keeping the device’s software up to date ensures optimal performance and compatibility with apps.
    • Steps: Go to Settings > My Fire TV > About > Check for Updates (for Amazon devices).

    Reset to Factory Settings (if necessary)

    • If performance issues persist, a factory reset can resolve major issues but should be used as a last resort since it deletes all data.
    • Steps: Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Reset to Factory Defaults.

    Adjust Screen Timeout (Optional)

    • For devices connected to a TV, adjusting the screen timeout can reduce energy usage and extend the device’s lifespan.
    • Steps: Go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Screen Saver > Adjust timeout settings.

    Adjust Display and Audio Settings (optional)

    • Disable Data Collection and Ad Tracking
      • Go to Settings > Preferences > Privacy Settings.

      • Toggle the following options Off to enhance privacy:

      1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet.
      2. Select your Wi-Fi network, then Forget Network.
      3. Reconnect by selecting the network again and entering the password.

      Reboot Device

      • Press and hold the Power button on your remote until the power menu appears.
      • Select Restart or Reboot to restart your device.
      • Alternatively, unplug the device from the power source, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.

      Confirm Available Storage

      • Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Storage.
      • Ensure there’s at least 1 GB of free storage available. Consider deleting unused apps if storage is low.

      Delete Unused Apps

      • Go to Settings > Apps > See all apps.
      • Select the app you want to delete, then choose Uninstall.

      • Limit Ad Tracking: Toggle Opt out of Ads Personalization to reduce personalized ads.
      • Reset Advertising ID: Select this to clear data associated with ad tracking.

      Check for Software Updates

      • Go to Settings > Device Preferences > About > System Update.
      • Select Check for Updates and install any available updates to ensure your device has the latest improvements.

      Reset to Factory Settings (if necessary)

      • Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Reset.
      • Choose Factory Data Reset and confirm. This will erase all data and restore the device to its original settings.

      Adjust Screen Timeout (Optional)

      • Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Screen Saver.
      • Set the Screen Saver Timer to control when your device enters screen saver mode, helping extend device lifespan.

      Adjust Display and Audio Settings (optional)

      • Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Display & Sound.
      • Adjust settings such as Resolution, HDR, and Audio Output for optimal viewing and listening quality.

      Enable Google Assistant Voice Control

      • Most Google devices come with Google Assistant, allowing you to search and control settings with voice commands.
      • Steps:
        1. Hold the Microphone button on your remote (if available) and speak your command, like “Open Apollo Group TV” or “Search for movies.”

      Customize Home Screen Recommendations

      • Google TV and Android TV allow you to customize recommendations on the home screen to show relevant apps and content.
      • Steps:
        1. Go to Settings > Device Preferences > Home Screen.
        2. Adjust Recommendations settings to prioritize apps and content that are most relevant to you.

      Enable Developer Options (Advanced Users)

      • Developer Options can unlock advanced settings like USB debugging or forcing apps to use GPU rendering.
      • Steps:
        1. Go to Settings > Device Preferences > About.
        2. Scroll down to Build and press the Select button seven times until you see “You are now a developer!”
        3. Go back to Device Preferences to find Developer Options at the bottom of the menu.

      Apple Device Optimization

      Clear Cache and Data

      Note: iOS doesn’t have a direct “Clear Cache” option for individual apps, but you can achieve similar results with the following steps:

        • For iPhone/iPad:
          1. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage).
          2. Scroll down to find the Apollo Group TV app (or any app you want to optimize).
          3. Tap the app, then select Offload App to remove the app while keeping its data.
          4. Alternatively, select Delete App to remove it completely and reinstall from the App Store, which clears both cache and data.
        • For Apple TV:
          1. Go to Settings > General > Manage Storage.
          2. Highlight the app you want to delete, press and hold the Touch surface on the remote until it jiggles, then press Play/Pause to delete it.
          3. Reinstall the app from the App Store to clear all cache and data.

        Reset Wi-Fi Connection

        For iPhone/iPad:

          1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
          2. Tap the (i) icon next to your Wi-Fi network, then select Forget This Network.
          3. Reconnect by selecting your network again and entering the password.

        For Apple TV:

            1. Go to Settings > Network.
            2. Select your Wi-Fi network, then choose Forget Network.
            3. Reconnect by selecting your Wi-Fi network and entering the password.

        Reboot Device

        • For iPhone/iPad:
          1. Press and hold the Power button and either Volume button until the power-off slider appears.
          2. Slide to turn off, then press and hold the Power button again to turn it back on.
        • For Apple TV:
          1. Go to Settings > System > Restart.
          2. Alternatively, unplug Apple TV from the power source, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.

        Confirm Available Storage

        • For iPhone/iPad:
          1. Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage).
          2. Ensure there’s at least 1 GB of free storage available. Consider deleting unused apps if storage is low.
        • For Apple TV:
          1. Go to Settings > General > Manage Storage.
          2. Delete unused apps if storage is limited.

          2. Check the Model and tvOS Version to confirm compatibility.

        3. Use the directional buttons to move the app to your desired position, then press Touch surface to place it.

        Adjust Privacy and Ad Settings

        • For iPhone/iPad:
          1. Go to Settings > Privacy.
          2. Toggle off any unnecessary Location Services and Tracking settings.
          3. Under Apple Advertising, turn off Personalized Ads.
        • For Apple TV:
          1. Go to Settings > General > Privacy.
          2. Toggle Limit Ad Tracking to reduce personalized ads.

        Check for Software Updates

        • For iPhone/iPad:
          1. Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
          2. If an update is available, select Download and Install.
        • For Apple TV:
          1. Go to Settings > System > Software Updates.
          2. Select Update Software and install any available updates.

        Reset to Factory Settings (if necessary)

        • For iPhone/iPad:
          1. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
          2. Confirm to reset the device to its original settings.
        • For Apple TV:
          1. Go to Settings > System > Reset.
          2. Choose Reset or Reset and Update to erase all content and settings.

        Adjust Screen Timeout (Optional)

        • Steps:
          1. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.
          2. Set the screen timeout to a desired duration to save battery life and improve security.

        Adjust Display and Audio Settings (optional)

        • Apple TV Steps:
          1. Go to Settings > Video and Audio.
          2. Adjust settings such as Resolution, Format, HDR, and Audio Output to optimize for your TV and sound system.

        Enable Siri Voice Control

        • Siri can be used for quick searches and app controls.
        • For iPhone/iPad: Hold the Side button or Home button (depending on model) and say commands like “Open Apollo Group TV” or “Find sports movies.”
        • For Apple TV: Press the Microphone button on the remote and speak your command.

        Enable Low Data Mode (iPhone/iPad)

        • Low Data Mode reduces data usage, useful if you’re streaming on limited data.
        • Steps:
          1. Go to Settings > Cellular or Wi-Fi > Data Mode.
          2. Toggle on Low Data Mode.
